Up The Yangtze: Three Gorges Dam

I truly enjoyed the movie Up The Yangtze, it was eye opening to see how different life can be outside of America. The movie gave an inside look of what life in China is like and the many challenges it presents. Much of the lifestyle portrayed in the movie focusses on the Yangtze River, this is where the Three Gorges Dam is located. This dam is the world's largest hydropower project and most notorious dam, the project sets records for number of people displaced (more than 1.2 million). The environmental impacts of the project are profound, and are likely to get worse as time goes on. The project has been plagued by corruption, spiraling costs, environmental impacts, humane rights and resettlement issues.
