Global Warming: Truth or Hoax?

Global Warming has been a hot topic for politicians and scientist across the world. The primary reason why Global Warming is such a controversial issue is because if true, it will cause (or has caused) detrimental problems to earth. It is unclear whether or not Global Warming is actually taking place for several reasons. First, the debate between the left and right politicians strongly disagree about this topic, making is difficult what to believe. Also, there has been so much research that has been exaggerated to fit a politicians agenda so people will believe them. This again, makes it extremely difficult to know the God honest truth about this issue.

Below is a link to a Fox News (conservative) article that denies all reason to believe that Global Warming is true. The article is entitled "Left Just Now Discovering Global Warming Hoax".

Now here is a link to a study and article done Colorado University at Boulder, this is an extremely liberal school. Of course, the article discusses why and how Global Warming is happening at extreme rate.

This is an article entitled "Al Gore Sued by 30,000 Scientist for Global Warming Fraud Video". Al Gore is a notorious Global Warming activist, who made the popular video An Inconvenience Truth.

All in all, global warming very could possibly be real and taking place right now. No ones truly knows the cold, hard facts about this controversial issue. The truth is smothered with political nonsense and faulty research making it impossible to know the truth! The best thing to do would be to research your self and have your own opinion because you just can't believe anyone else's.

Up The Yangtze: Three Gorges Dam

I truly enjoyed the movie Up The Yangtze, it was eye opening to see how different life can be outside of America. The movie gave an inside look of what life in China is like and the many challenges it presents. Much of the lifestyle portrayed in the movie focusses on the Yangtze River, this is where the Three Gorges Dam is located. This dam is the world's largest hydropower project and most notorious dam, the project sets records for number of people displaced (more than 1.2 million). The environmental impacts of the project are profound, and are likely to get worse as time goes on. The project has been plagued by corruption, spiraling costs, environmental impacts, humane rights and resettlement issues.

LCA: Paper

The Life Cycle Assessment can be broke down into four different categories: material production, product manufacturing, product use, and product disposal. At each category there will always be a recourse put in and recourses that become waste or emissions. To demonstrate the understanding of the process of the LCA, I will use paper as an example. First (material production), to make paper you must start with wood which comes from trees for this to happen you must have the proper equipment and workers to cut the trees into the suitable size. This will require travel into the woods with all the necessary equipment to cut, breakdown, and haul the wood. From there the wood will be hauled out of the woods to a paper mill (product manufacturing) where the wood will be made into paper. In order for this to happen the factory will need to have the proper machinery, recourses and labor to assemble the paper. Once the wood is made into paper it can then be shipped off to a wide variety of places and used for a multitude of reasons (product use).  In order for this product to be used it will have to be transported from the factory to its destination for example a school. Once the paper has been used and is no longer needed it can be thrown into the trash or recycled (product disposal). Which will require transportation to the landfill or to the recycling center and labor to do so. All of these steps require different recourses and cause different emissions.

Fact Sheet: Acid Rain

A fact sheet is essentially a flyer with information about a specific topic, it must be organized and have specific information to be effective. The information needs to be visible and easy for readers to understand, having the perfect amount is key. Pictures are a great way to get to make the information easy to understand plus it makes the fact sheet look professional. Here is an example of a fact sheet about concussions in lacrosse:

For our class fact sheet project, I discussed Acid Rain and its environmental threats. Acid Rain is a mixture of wet and dry deposition (deposited material) from the atmosphere containing higher than normal amounts of nitric and sulfuric acids. Acid Rain is aresult from both natural sources, such as volcanoes and decaying vegetation, and man-made sources, primarily emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides resulting from fossil fuel combustion.

Problems With Sustainability: HIV/ AIDS Epidemic

The history of HIV and AIDS is a short one. As recently as the 1970s, no one was aware of this deadly illness. Since then the global HIV/AIDS epidemic has become one of the greatest threats to human health and development. At the same time, much has been learnt about the science of HIV and AIDS, as well as how to prevent and treat the disease. There is still no cure for HIV but treatment has improved enormously since the 90s. HIV-positive people who take a combination of three antiretroviral drugs can expect to recover their health and live for many years without developing AIDS, as long as they keep taking the drugs every day. Statistics for the end of 2010 indicate that roughly 34 million people are living with HIV, the virus that leads to AIDS. Every year around 2.7 million more people become infected with HIV and 1.8 million die of AIDS. Although HIV and AIDS are found across the world, some places are effected much more severe, such as Africa.
